Class Schedule forthe 2016-2017 year

Papa Lehua/Intermediate-Advanced Women

Tuesday 6:45-8:45 PM
Dancers in this class are required to have higher hula skills. Dancers are expected to be able to learn at a fast pace and dance in unison. Kumu's recommendation is required. Age 18 and up.
Tuition : $50/month

Papa Pikake/Gracious Ladies

Thursday 6:45-8:15pm
This class is for mother/grandmother age ladies with some hula experience. The dancers are expected to know the basic steps and knowledge. Those who are age 55 and up have opportunities to dance in hula competitions in both the US Mainland and Hawaii.
Tuition : $50/month

Papa Mokihana/Beginning Ladies

Wednesday 6:45-7:45pm
This is an introductory class for those who have little or no hula experience. This class teaches basic knowledge of hula, such as steps, hand motions, and chanting. Dancers learn to enjoy hula.
Tuition : $40/month

Papa Hinahina/Seated Hula

Thursday 11:00am-12:00pm
This class is designed for those who love to hula but physically have hard time dancing on the feet. Dancers learn classic/traditional Hawaiian songs, using only upper body while sitting on a chair. Open for all ages and levels.
Tuition : $40/month

Papa Kukui/Men

Tuesday 5:30-6:30 PM
This class is open for all men age 12 and up regardless of prior hula experience. Dancers will learn and dance the powerful and strong male style of hula.
Tuition : $30/month

Papa Lauae/Middle & High School Girls

Monday 6:45-7:45 PM
This class is for girls in 6th to 12th grades. All levels are welcome. Advanced dancers occasionally perform for local businesses, and compete at hula competitions.
Tuition : $40/month

Papa Awapuhi/Intermediate-Advanced Girls

Monday 5:30-6:30 PM
Thursday 5:30-6:30 PM
This class is for girls age 5-10. The girls learn more advanced hula. The dancers are required to be able to focus and pay good attention to the lessons. Advanced dancers often have performances for local businesses and compete at hula competitions. Intermediate girls may be asked to do so as well depending on the skill. Kumu's recommendation is necessary to register for this class.

Papa Lokelani 1/Beginner Girls 1

Wednesday 5:00-5:30 PM
This class is for girls age 4-6. The girls learn the basic steps and hand motions of hula through Hawaiian chants and songs.
Tuition : $30/month

Papa Lokelani 2/Beginning Girls 2

Wednesday 5:40-6:30pm
This class is for girls age 7 to 10. The girls learn the basic steps and hand motions of hula through Hawaiian chants and songs. Those who belong to Papa Lokelani 1 may join this class as well with Kumu's recommendation.
Tuition : $40/month

Papa Lai/Beginning-Intermediate Boys

Tuesday 4:15-5:15pm
This class is for boys age 5 to 11. The boys learn the basic steps and hand motions of hula through Hawaiian chants and songs.
Tuition : $30/month

Papa Liko/Preschool Boys & Girls

Wednesday 11:00-11:45am
8 classes in a session. Children age 3 to 5 will be introduced to basic Hawaiian language, along with some hula motions and beats. Maximum class size:5
Tuition : $60/session

Ashland Classes

Classes meet every Friday with artistic director, Akiko Colton teaching one Friday per month. The other Fridays are spent practicing basic steps and perfecting new dances with alaka'i, Leilani Kahananui.
